Question 1

Do I need to buy a fishing license for a Mosquito Lagoon charter?

Accepted Answer

No. Your fishing license is included in the charter price. Captain Justin Price holds all necessary licenses and permits, including a Special Use Permit to guide in the Canaveral National Seashore and Merritt Island Wildlife Refuge.

Question 2

What fish can I catch on the Mosquito Lagoon?

Accepted Answer

Year-round targets include redfish, speckled trout (seatrout), snook, black drum, and sheepshead. Seasonal species include tarpon (spring/summer), jack crevalle, bluefish, and ladyfish. Night charters also target mangrove snappers, lookdown fish, and tripletail.

Question 3

Is the charter suitable for kids and beginners?

Accepted Answer

Absolutely! Right In Sight Charters is a family-friendly business. Captain Justin has great patience teaching younger and beginner anglers. For kids, we offer mixed-bag fishing in the tidal areas of Ponce Inlet, New Smyrna Beach, and Edgewater where there is a greater variety of species and more action.

Question 4

What is included in the charter price?

Accepted Answer

Everything you need is included: fishing license, all rods and reels (fly and spin), tackle, flies, ice, water, and professional photography of your trip. Equipment is provided by top sponsors including Tibor, Scientific Anglers, Simms, Hellsbay Boatworks, Costa, and Z-Man.

Question 5

What should I bring on the charter?

Accepted Answer

Polarized sunglasses (a must for sight fishing), weather-appropriate clothing, sunscreen (UPF 50), non-marking white-sole shoes, snacks, and drinks. A light rain jacket is recommended in summer. Travel light to keep the boat nimble.

Question 6

How much does a fishing charter cost?

Accepted Answer

Half Day (4 hours) is $500, Three Quarter Day (6 hours) is $600, and All Day (8 hours) is $700. Add $100 for a third angler. Night fishing charters are also available. Multiple boat charters can be arranged for larger groups.

Question 7

What is the best time of year to fish the Mosquito Lagoon?

Accepted Answer

The Mosquito Lagoon fishes year-round. Winter and early spring (December through March) give the most consistent sight fishing: cold fronts clear the water, redfish school heavily and black drum tail on the flats. Spring brings the mullet migration and topwater action. Summer is big-redfish season at first light, with juvenile tarpon in the creeks and night trips to beat the heat. Fall is the captain’s favorite time to fly fish: north winds clean the lagoon and redfish pod up and tail in the grass, with fewer boats around.

Question 8

Where do charters depart from?

Accepted Answer

Charters depart from the New Smyrna Beach area in Volusia County, Florida. We are a short drive from Orlando, Daytona Beach, and Cocoa Beach, and only 30 minutes from the Daytona International Airport.
